More Than a Walk: Pilgrim Paths Celebrates an Outstanding 2026 Pilgrimage Season

From the Camino de Santiago to the ancient pilgrimage routes of Italy, our travelers are sharing stories of extraordinary journeys, thoughtful service, and friendships that last long after the walking ends.

As another wonderful pilgrimage season draws to a close, we're celebrating the experiences of the people who matter most to us: our pilgrims.

Throughout 2026, Pilgrim Paths has helped travelers explore some of Europe's most remarkable historic walking routes. Some joined our guided group pilgrimages, others traveled independently with our personalized concierge services, and still others embarked on adventures with friends and family.

Their journeys were as individual as the pilgrims themselves. But their reviews share a common theme: thoughtful planning, attentive support, and the freedom to enjoy a pilgrimage without worrying about the logistics.

We're delighted that Pilgrim Paths has earned an average rating of 4.9 out of 5 stars across 55 traveler reviews on WeTravel.

Even more rewarding are the stories behind those ratings.

Walking in the Footsteps of St. Francis

Our autumn group pilgrimage along the Via di Francesco from Florence to Assisi brought travelers through the beautiful landscapes of Tuscany and Umbria, following the traditions and places associated with St. Francis of Assisi.

Pilgrims enjoyed knowledgeable Italian guides, visits to places associated with Franciscan history, and opportunities for reflection and companionship.

For Timothy H., returning for his second Pilgrim Paths journey after walking from Assisi to Rome the previous year, the experience was about far more than the scenery.

"You're not simply walking through beautiful landscapes; you're connecting with the history, culture, and spirit of the places along the way."

Timothy especially appreciated the friendships that developed among the travelers:

"We all started out as strangers and left with wonderful memories and friendships."

John W., another returning pilgrim, praised the thoughtful itinerary, experienced local guides, accommodations, and the practical support provided throughout the walk.

"We truly felt like part of an extended family when on this trip."

He also highlighted the benefits of our support vehicle, which transported luggage, provided refreshments, and offered a ride when a pilgrim needed a break.

Patrick M. described the freedom of being able to immerse himself in the experience without worrying about daily arrangements:

"No fuss on what you are to eat or where to sleep or how to get there, just show up and be ready to go."

For us, these comments capture the heart of a well-designed pilgrimage: challenging and rewarding walking, enriching cultural encounters, and the reassurance that the practical details are being handled.

A Magical Journey Through Tuscany on the Via Francigena

One of our most memorable custom journeys this autumn brought together a multigenerational group of friends, ages 56 to 80, to celebrate two 80th birthdays along the Via Francigena between Lucca and Siena.

Organized by Beth D., the journey required special attention to walking distances, transportation, accommodations, and the differing abilities of the group members.

Our concierge team worked closely with Beth to adapt the itinerary, arranging comfortable overnight stays, luggage transportation, and additional transfers.

When one traveler experienced canceled flights and delays, our team organized a last-minute, late-night transfer from Florence to Lucca so that she could begin walking with her friends the following morning.

Beth described the experience:

"This trip was magical, connecting all of us with the joy of walking, a sense of strong accomplishment and a total immersion into the gorgeous Tuscan countryside."

She also praised the team's responsiveness and attention to individual needs:

"The company is stellar and exactly the kind of professionals to have in your corner - at a price that offered terrific value."

Another member of the group, Joseph K., singled out the care provided throughout the planning and journey, describing our concierge service as:

"Strictly Deluxe!"

These experiences illustrate one of our guiding principles: a pilgrimage should be designed around the people making the journey, rather than expecting every traveler to fit a predetermined itinerary.

On the Camino de Santiago: Confidence, Friendship, and Discovery

Our Camino travelers in Spain have been equally enthusiastic.

Along the Camino Francés, pilgrims enjoyed thoughtfully selected accommodations, luggage transfers, experienced leadership, and the opportunity to discover the distinctive culture and traditions of northern Spain.

Kim K., who joined a group journey led by Joyce, wrote:

"I loved getting to know the people in our group- we started as strangers and became friends. We shared so many memories that will last a lifetime."

She praised the organization, food, and leadership, calling the experience a trip of a lifetime.

Kandace B. was equally enthusiastic:

"Everything about this trip was first rate - accommodations, meals, luggage arrangements, etc."

For independent pilgrims, the benefits of concierge support can be especially important.

Margaret M., who completed a 500-mile journey along the Camino Francés, explained:

"Pilgrim Paths took all of my anxiety away about lodgings during my 500 mile Camino Frances journey."

And Robert C., who walked from Sarria to Santiago with his daughter, shared:

"Sandy set up exceptional lodging in all cities. Far exceeded our expectations."

Our concierge services also supported independent journeys along the Camino Portugués da Costa and the Via Francigena through Switzerland and Italy.

Mila and Tim G., who walked the Portuguese Coastal Way, appreciated the collaborative planning process:

"They listened to our input and guided us as we chose the route that seemed appropriate for our goals."

They also praised the comfortable accommodations and the assistance they received when they encountered difficulties using their navigation app.

Caroline E., whose group traveled along the Via Francigena from Lausanne to Aosta, highlighted the thoughtful daily distances and convenient accommodations:

"We had a fantastic trip. Thank you Rocky and team for organizing this. Each day was the perfect distance and the lodgings were easy to find. It was magical."

These journeys reflect the flexibility that makes our concierge approach so rewarding. Every pilgrimage has its own character, and every traveler brings different hopes, abilities, and priorities to the experience.

The People Behind Every Successful Pilgrimage

Although our pilgrims spend their days on historic paths, a great deal of work takes place behind the scenes.

Our team helps travelers choose routes, determine appropriate walking distances, reserve accommodations, arrange luggage transfers, and navigate the unexpected challenges that sometimes arise during international travel.

Rocky, Denise, and our wider network of pilgrimage leaders and local guides received particular recognition in this year's reviews.

Travelers repeatedly praised the responsiveness of our staff, the expertise of our guides, and the personal attention they received before, during, and after their journeys.

We take special pride in the fact that several recent reviewers were enjoying their second Pilgrim Paths pilgrimage and are already considering a third.

That kind of continuing relationship is one of the most meaningful measures of our success.

Looking Ahead to 2027

The best pilgrimages leave us with more than photographs and a record of miles walked. They offer time for reflection, opportunities to connect with other people, a deeper appreciation of history and culture, and the satisfaction of discovering what we're capable of.

Our pilgrims' stories remind us why we do this work.

As we prepare for another season of guided group pilgrimages and personally designed concierge journeys in 2027, we're grateful to everyone who has walked with us, recommended us to friends, or taken the time to share a review.

Thank you for making 2026 such a memorable year.

Whether you're dreaming of the Camino de Santiago, the Via Francigena, the Way of St. Francis, or another historic pilgrimage route, we'd love to help you plan a journey of your own.
